The Doll

When Ashley was little, we bought her a Cabbage Patch doll that she named “Gladys.”

At first she loved that doll and took it everywhere. It came with a little card that had what the company had named her, but Ashley used Gladys. She liked that name better.

After a while, Ashley started having bad dreams. Whenever she went to bed, she would take Gladys with her, and the dreams would start. The dreams always dealt with fire. The house would burn down, her parents would die, her bedroom was on fire- it always involved a fire and she would wake up terrified.

This went on for quite a while.

One day, I was curious about the name that the company had given to the doll, so I looked the name up in an encyclopedia. I was floored when I found out that the name was derived from a Greek god having to do with fire.

Not long after, at the end of our rope with the nightly terror,  Gladys was conveniently “lost” and immediately the dreams stopped.

did you ever wonder if the fire from her dreams could be in any way connected to the hooded man lingering around?
